Honestly I’m not entirely sure what
major grammatical issues I have specifically. Don’t get me wrong, I know I am amateur
with grammar to say the least; I know first-hand how many different colored squiggly
lines appear throughout my rough drafts. Like I previously said, I just can’t
think off the top of my head what needs fixed the most. Guessing I think it is
mostly comma placement and knowing what words need dashes.
I think the
biggest reason I have problems with grammar is because of spell-check. Since it
is so easy these days to see an error then fix it, you don’t have to put much
thought into it or remember what the rules in grammar. Also, more and more
people are not even caring about grammar so there isn’t much to compare your
own grammar to.
My main goal with
taking this class is to improve my grammar and make me more skilled, fluent,
confident with my writing. I want to become a High School English teacher so I
feel it would a smidge hypocritical if I could not correctly write, punctuate,
correct student mistakes… I want to actually be a credible teacher. There has
been so many instances where people complain how “kids these days” don’t learn
a thing about grammar in High School.
The
final motivational tool to get me to improve my grammar is to get better paying
and earning jobs (not that you can really improve much with a teacher’s salary).
So point blank, I have grammar issues, among other writing issues, I would like
to improve. So I am excited to be taking this course and finally become a stereotypical
English major and be able to be a grammar fanatic!
